Today is Purple Day (Epilepsy Australia) is the Global Day of Epilepsy awareness. People are invited to wear purple, and host events in support of Epilepsy awareness.

World Down Syndrome Day

Today is World Down Syndrome Day! Down Syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality, and affects approx 1 in every live births. People with Down Syndrome can be affected in many ways, most commonly are intellectual impairment, low muscle tone, heart defects, and a range of hearing and vision problems. World Down Sydrome Day is celebrating the lives and achievements of people with DS.

This week…

This week 11-17th March is World Glaucoma Week. Glaucoma is a major cause of irreversible loss of sight in adults aged 40+, though it can occur at any age.  There are often no warning signs, and so it is known as a ’silent’ eye condition. Glaucoma Week aims to encourage all Australians to undertake an eye check. Early diagnosis and treatment are vital in saving eyesight. Over 300,000 Australians have Glaucoma, though the numbers are suspected to be slightly higher, as many people are currently undiagnosed. So, go and get your eyes checked!

Muscular Dystrophy month

March is Muscular Dystrophy WA Awareness month. Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder which causes progressive muscle deteriation of strength and function. They are many types of Muscular Dystrophy, the most common childhood variety being Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.It is estimated there there are over 20,000 people in Australia with a neuromuscular disorder. There is no cure, however researchers are trialling various treatments to slow the progress of these life threatening disorders. Muscular Dystrophy Month is aiming to raise awareness of the various dystrophies.

Epilepsy Awareness

March is National Epilepsy Awareness Month which culminates in Purple Day on the 26th of March.  Purple Day is a global awareness day. You can participate in Purple Day by hosting an event, fundraising and wearing purple on the day. Epilepsy is a family of conditions that are a disorder of  brain function that results in some form of seizure, and affects more than 1 in 100 people worldwide.

Yoropen update

Most of our Yoropen stock has been low or out of stock. To update, we now have a limited supply of the Rainbow Crayon packs, and a large quantity of VI lead HB pencils. We will also be adding a new Yoropen product to the website – refillable Pens. Unfortunately all other pencils and refills will not be replenished until sometime in April, due to manufacturer delays.
