Duchenne Awareness week

This week 9-15th February is Duchenne Awareness week.

“Muscular Dystrophy is a broad term used to label genetic disorders that affect muscles throughout the body. There are more than 20 disorders considered to be muscular dystrophy. Most have the same result—a reduction in muscle strength—but these various types of muscular dystrophies have different symptoms and different rates of degeneration.”

All forms of Muscular Dystrophy are considered rare, but Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the most common form. DMD affects approximately 1 child in every 3,500 – almost exclusively boys. For more informations visit: http://www.duchennefoundation.org.au/
